As part of the nonprofit Twin Cities School of Dance, the Parent Guild helps in fundraising, publicity, outreach, and school support. The Guild meets the last Thursday of the month throughout the school year: August, September, October, January, February, and April. All Twin Cities School of Dance parents are encouraged to attend!
In an effort to better serve our dancers and studio families, Twin Cities School of Dance and the Parent Guild are working to improve communications! Starting this week, you can look for a TCSD newsletter to arrive in your email inbox every other Friday.
The newsletter contains sections for important dates and reminders, upcoming fundraisers, general student news, and news specific to Company, Performance, and Repertory dancers, all in a concise, easy to read format. Hard copies of the newsletters, along with other fliers and information, will also be posted on the two studio bulletin boards, so be sure to continue to stop in the building from time to time so you don’t miss a thing.
In keeping with a streamlined approach to communications, we have decided to shut down the Parent Guild blog. The Guild thanks its readers, and as always, looks forward to seeing you at the studio!
Twin Cities School of Dance is back in session! We hope you’ve had a restful Winter Break, and are ready to get back into the studio this week.
Another successful Nutcracker performance is behind us, and preparations are underway for a host of spring shows in April and May—Repertory Company, Spring Ballet, and Spring Recital. Plus, there will be some exciting prizes raffled off during the semester, and some yummy restaurant night fundraisers, including Portillo’s in March!
Stay updated with all the latest TCSD news and announcements by checking your studio emails, stopping by the Guild bulletin board, and attending one or more of the last three Guild meetings of the year. Our next meeting is on Thursday, January 25, at 6:30 p.m. The Guild is seeking some new officers, so if you’re the type who likes to be actively involved with school volunteerism, please consider officially becoming part of the Guild! (Questions? Contact Guild president Zarina Plath: firstname.lastname@example.org or 309-750-2900) Nominations will be submitted at the February meeting, with voting taking place in April.

For many dancers and dance families, right now marks that season between Thanksgiving and Christmas—Nutcracker season! Yes, Tech Week is here, and with it comes a lot of information, especially if it’s your first time being involved with the production. Here are a few tips to help make this next week go more smoothly:
•Try to have little ones fed and in full hair and makeup before you arrive at Braden Auditorium. There’s not a lot of room to do much more than touch-ups in the youngest dancers’ dressing rooms, plus you’ll all be more relaxed at home. Bring quiet diversions, too—iPads, books, coloring with crayons (no markers). Hair and makeup guides are available as handouts at the studio and on the website.
•Other essentials to pack for Braden Auditorium: nudie, cover-up/sweater, extra tights, bobby pins, ponytail holders, hairspray, and makeup; cash for parking, raffle tickets, and other incidentals; hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes (clean hands often, and wipe down dressing tables to help stop the spread of germs); water bottles; lunch for Friday (if you didn’t order Avanti’s); flowers for your dancer (optional); DVD forms and payment (cash or check made out to TCSD Parent Guild); gifts (optional).
•Just a reminder that all cast members and their immediate families are invited to the Cast Party on Friday, December 1st! Light refreshments will be served in the Old Main Room at Bone Student Center from 5:00-7:00 p.m.; please RSVP at the Front Desk if you plan to attend (reservations required). The party is compliments of the studio, and is a fun way to kick off a weekend of performances in a festive setting. (Check out a few photos from last year’s party, below!)
Just like the holidays, Nutcracker season can be stressful, and even overwhelming at times. But it’s also a time to celebrate and enjoy the unique beauty and magic of it all. The weather is looking beautiful for this weekend’s ISU Homecoming Parade! If you haven’t had a chance to sign up yet to walk with the studio, please contact Parent Guild president Zarina Plath: email@example.com Details are forthcoming; plan to wear TCSD gear or ISU/red clothing, if possible. Step-off is at 10:00, and the Guild will provide candy and Nutcracker postcards to hand out.

With school and dance well underway, some nights you’re probably scrambling to get dinner on the table. Well, on Monday, October 16, you can take a load off and come down to Buffalo Wild Wings! The studio is having a restaurant night fundraiser from 4:00-9:00 p.m., and if enough people participate we’ll receive 15% of the profit! Vouchers are required (see below), so be sure to print one out or pick one up at the studio. Share this post on social media, too, and invite your friends!
Of course, being fall and all, that’s not the only thing going on right now:
•Ad forms, congratulations one-liners, and all ad money are due this Saturday, October 14.
•Coffee Hound coffee, tea, and hot chocolate sales are starting this week; watch for order forms at the studio in the coming days, and come get a delicious coffee sample on Saturday afternoon. Our studio will receive $3 to $5 for each item sold!
•If you and your dancer haven’t signed up yet to walk in the ISU Homecoming Parade, please do so this week in order to get on the information contact list; sign up on the Parent Guild bulletin board or email Zarina Plath directly: firstname.lastname@example.org

Now that autumn has finally arrived at Twin Cities School of Dance, here are a few reminders of some upcoming deadlines:
•Nutcracker apparel orders are due on Saturday, October 7. Order forms must be accompanied by payment (cash, or check made out to TCSD Parent Guild).
•Program ads and congratulations one-liners are due Saturday, October 14. All ad forms must must be accompanied by payment (cash, or check made out to TCSD Parent Guild).
•Sign-ups to walk with TCSD in the ISU Homecoming Parade (October 21) and to assist at the Barnes & Noble Book Fair fundraiser (November 12) are on the Parent Guild bulletin board. Both events are great ways to represent and support our studio!
•Nutcracker tickets go on sale at the Braden Box Office, and through Ticketmaster, beginning October 2. The shows run December 2-3, both at 2:00 p.m.
•Mark your calendars for the Land of Sweets Tea at Bloomington Country Club (Sunday, November 5, 2:00-4:00 p.m.)! Tickets will be on sale in early October at the studio.
•Next Parent Guild meeting: Thursday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Happy Fall, dance families! The months of September through November are full of activity here at the studio, and the TCSD Parent Guild wants YOU to be part of it.
We recently held our first meeting of the year, and it was fabulous to see some new faces alongside returning parents. If you’re the type of parent who gets involved in your child’s school PTO/PTA, then you already know some of the reasons why getting involved with the Guild is so important. Attending a meeting is a great way to learn more about things that have been happening at the studio and what plans and projects are underway. If you missed the meeting, here are some dates to mark on your calendar:

Classes for the 2017-18 season at Twin Cities School of Dance starts this week! Last Thursday, TCSD was a hub of activity as families completed registration and shopped for dance wear and shoes in the Dancingly Yours boutique. If you haven’t been in the studio for a while, you’ll notice some exciting changes, including our newly redesigned website (and online payment system), a new look at the front desk, and enhanced storage in our waiting room.
Check out the recent photos below, and be sure to look at the Parent Guild bulletin board whenever you’re in the building. Every TCSD parent is automatically included in the Guild, which is a group similar to a school PTO. Our first meeting of the year is coming up on August 31 at 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!
The 2017 farmers’ market bake sale was a huge success! We sold out of almost everything, and brought in approximately $400 in sales. It was also a beautiful day to make contact with prospective dance families and share some info about our studio. We handed out fall schedules and Nutcracker info, and provided children with stickers and Nutcracker coloring sheets
A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped out by baking items or staffing our booth—we couldn’t do it without our wonderful and generous volunteers!
This Saturday, June 24, is jam-packed with activity, and we know you don’t want to miss it! Between 7:30 a.m. and noon, stroll the Downtown Bloomington Farmers’ Market on the Courthouse Square. Twin Cities School of Dance will be having a bake sale there as the week’s designated nonprofit organization! We’re located at Center and Jefferson, right by the Kids’ Zone activities.
Then, from noon to 4:00 p.m., head to Uptown Normal for the free music festival Make Music Normal. TCSD will have a booth there, too, featuring dance performances and children’s music/dance activities.
It’s a great time to support the studio and the performing arts!
