July 30th was National Dance Day, and Twin Cities School of Dance was part of the celebration! The morning started with a free Zumba dance-fitness class in the studio parking lot, attended by dancers, parents, and other community members—special thanks to TCSD’s Zumba instructor, Ms. Tracie, for this energizing event! (Side note: Zumba will be offered on Monday and Thursday evenings for any interested parents or other adults. There are also adult ballet classes and adult strengthening classes offered, too—check out the schedule on the studio website!)
On Saturday afternoon, the celebration of all things dance continued at Bloomington Public Library with a special children’s program. Did you know that TCSD is one of the library’s summer reading program sponsors? It’s just one more way our studio loves to give back to the community.
Several of our dancers performed for a crowd of 70 adults and children, showcasing ballet, modern, and contemporary dance styles. After the free performance, children were invited to participate in dance-themed activity stations led by our dancers. For so many children, programs like these are their first—or only—exposure to the performing arts.
Thank you to Ms. Alicia, our participating dancers, and the other parents who helped make this a fun and successful event! (And check out the gallery of snapshots from the day, below!)
The 2016 Summer Workshop was a success! Congratulations to all the dancers who were accepted into Company and Performance, and to those who were promoted a level. Keep up the good work!
Fall will be here before you know it, so be sure to register for classes if you haven’t done so already. And even though the summer session is over, there is is still plenty going on in July and August:
•Saturday, July 30, 2:00 p.m.—”Get Up and Dance!” children’s program at Bloomington Public Library. Several Senior Company and Senior Performance dancers will do a short performance in the Community Room, followed by children’s dance activities. This event is free and open to the public. Twin Cities School of Dance is a sponsor of Bloomington Public Library’s summer reading program.
•Tuesday, August 2, 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.—Annual McLean County Senior Expo at ISU’s Bone Student Center. Several of our dancers will perform that morning, and TCSD will have an information table throughout the day. Sponsored by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Homes. Free admission.
•Monday, August 22—Fall classes begin. Welcome back!
•Thursday, August 25, 6:00 p.m.—First Parent Guild meeting of the year! All parents/guardians of a TCSD dancer are encouraged to attend. (Little ones are welcome to accompany you, as well!)
Enjoy the rest of your summer, and keep on dancing!
Good news: The 2016 Bake Sale was a success! Despite the unseasonably cool temps we enjoyed great crowds at the Downtown Bloomington Farmers’ Market, and we were able to make contact with many market-goers to promote the studio.
All of our beautiful and delicious treats sold out before the end of the morning—thanks again so much to the dancers and dance families who baked, decorated, and helped sell!
